Abstract

7917. Claudel, C. H. Dec. 26, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. The carburetting-chamber consists of the interior of a plug b which may be spherical, conical, or cylindrical in shape, and which is rotated within the shell a either by hand or governor to vary the quantity of mixture to the engine. Fuel from the constant-level reservoir l flows to the chamber j, which is heated by the engine-cooling water or by exhaust gases, and issues through the nozzle d which passes through a portion of the plug b, cut away as shown at e, Fig. 4, to keep the proportion of air to fuel constant. Above the nozzle d is placed a baffle g which may be a plane surface, a cone, a sphere, or as shown, a cylindrical rod. It may be fixed to the nozzle or mounted either concentrically or eccentrically in the plug b. A spring- loaded valve i allows supplementary air to enter the mixture chamber through passages h, the main air supply entering by the pipe m.
