Abstract

4427. Lamplough, F., and Albany Manufacturing Co. Feb. 22. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. A carburettor has the spray nozzle above the mixing-chamber, which has an internal heater for exhaust gases or water from the cylinder jackets. Air entering through openings d, g draws fuel through small holes f and projects it into a hemispherical depression 1 in the top of a heating- chamber y. The mixture passes round the walls of the heater and through a perforated partition u, receiving a secondary supply of air, from an inlet q, through a perforated partition t; the resulting mixture passes to the engine through an outlet x. The inlet q is controlled by a suction-operated piston-valve p carried by springs as shown, and having a dash-pot consisting of a chamber r<1> with a small hole in the cover 4, acting in conjunction with a fixed loose piston r<2>.
