Abstract
4886. Simms, F. R. Feb. 27. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. The carburetter shown in Fig. 1 is heated by exhaust gases passing through the passage r, and is supplied with hydrocarbon through the adjustable nipple n. Air is supplied to the chamber b, surrounding the spraying-nozzle, through holes d, and enters the mixing-chamber c through passages f<1> in the sleeve f, and through the aperture h between the casing a and the flared part of the sleeve f. When the suction of the engine increases, the conical portion g rises and increases the supply of air to the mixing-chamber through the passage h. If preferred, the nipple n, which is adjusted by the piston suction, may be fixed to, and take part in, the motion of the sleeve f. Arranged centrally within the carburetter is aq adjustable corrugated disc q, which serves to mix more intimately the air and hydrocarbons.
