Abstract

25,838. Kerr, J. B. Nov. 15. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting and vaporizing in. In an exhaust-heated carburettor, the supplementary air supply is led through a heated tube so as to meet the mixture immediately the latter enters the mixing chamber. A spring- loaded valve b is placed at the top of the mixing- chamber a, and controls the supply of air entering through the rotatable valve e and the supply of oil through the passage c to the seat of the valve. At the centre of the mixing-chamber a are fitted two tubes f, g, the former closed and the latter open at the top. Between the tube f and the wall of the chamber a is fitted a spiral rib k. Exhaust gases enter by the pipe i, and leave by the pipe i<1> after having traversed the annular space between the tubes f, g, which contains the baffles h. The supplementary air supply enters the tube g through the rotatable disk n, becomes heated in the tube, and meets the main air and fuel supply as they enter the mixing-chamber. The mixture is conducted to the engine through a pipe fitted with the usual throttle valve. Instead of the spiral rib k, perforated superposed baffles may be employed.
