Abstract

128,987. Ricardo, H. R. Sept. 11, 1917. Spray carburettors.-Cooled exhaust or other inert gas is admitted through an extra air inlet which is controlled by a spring-loaded suctionactuated valve. The nozzle A discharges into a choke-tube B connected by a pipe C with the throttle chamber D which contains the throttle valve E and an extra air valve J guided by a piston J<2> and loaded by an adjustable spring K. The carburettor is heated by exhaust gases in the jacket space P<2>, the gases entering at Q and leaving at R, and the amount flowing through the jacket being determined by a flap valve S. A pipe 0 provided with a cock conducts a portion of the gases to a water-cooled chamber N<1>, whence they pass by a pipe M to the extra air inlet G. If the carburettor is used with fuel the mixture from which does not require to be heated, the exhaustgas nozzle is situated in the choke-tube adjacent the fuel nozzle.
