Abstract
2398. Halliday, T. E. Jan. 31. [Cognate Application, 6137/11.] Spray carburettors ; vaporizers, external.- Air is first carburetted, and the mixture is then heated and finally moistened, the three processes being performed separately. Mixture from the carburettor C, Fig. 1, passes through a pipe G into a chamber H surrounding the exhaust pipes Z, from which chamber it is drawn through the pipe Y to the' inlet valve. Just prior to admission to the cylinder, the mixture is diluted with hot air moistened by a. water jet at K. There may be two flat chambers, one for light and one for heavy fuel, and the water-cock M may be connected to the fuel-control cock B so that water is only supplied when using the heavy fuel. The carburettor is shown in Fig. 2. Extra air enters through ports E controlled by a spring-controlled valve F. Helical baffles may be placed in the space D, on the throttle valve O and in the induction pipe to whirl the air and facilitate mixing. The water supply may be at the side of the carburettor as shown at P. Specifications 13,047/08 and 1140/11 are re- ,ferred to.
