Abstract

325,473. Whiteman, J. L. Oct. 18, 1928. Vaporizers, external.- A vaporizer for the air and fuel supplied to a carburettor comprises a casing 1 one end 17 of which is adapted to be connected to the carburettor air inlet whilst the other end 15 is provided with air inlet ports, the casing being traversed by an exhaust conduit 2 and bv fuel pipes 5. 7, 12 which communicate with the carburettor fuel nozzle and are for use respectively for heavy, medium, and light fuels, The fuel pipe 5 extends through a hole in a part 6 formed integrally with the casing 1 and conduit 2. The pipe 7 is situated either in contact with or in close proximity to the conduit 2 being preferably located in a groove 8 formed in a projection 9, and the conduit 12 traverses the air space between the casing 1 and conduit 2. The three pipes, which are used alternatively, are valve controlled and are supplied from one tank If the apparatus is intended for use with only one kind of fuel, only the appropriate fuel pipe is provided. The air inlets to the casing 1 may be valve controlled and cold air may be admitted to the outlet 17 by a valve 16. The inlet of the exhaust conduit 2 may be provided with valve 10 or with a valve - controlled outlet for diverting part of the exhaust gases. The control valves for the air and exhaust gases may be interconnected with the carburettor throttle valve. According to the Provisional Specification, the fuel pipe for heavy fuel may traverse the exhaust conduit.
