Abstract

8096. Jochimsen, S. E., McKay, W. R., and Munkittrick, A. April 11. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, vaporizers for. In vaporizers for petroleum &c., in which the mixed fuel and air are passed through a pipe surrounded by an exhaust jacket, the vaporizing-chamber a is in contact with the exhaust jacket b at one side in order to allow for expansion, and the supplementary air inlets consist of pipes s which may be curved in the direction of the stream of mixture and may be staggered. The supply of supplementary air is controlled by valves t, which may be operated together or independently. Fuel is supplied by a pipe k and air by a pipe l. The needle valve g controlling the fuel supply is connected to the suction-operated air valve h. The chamber a may be provided with baffles. A throttle valve p is provided. At starting, the vaporizer may be heated by a lamp, or a supplementary carburettor using light fuel may be provided. In the latter case, a throttle valve q is placed in the pipe o leading from the carburettor, and the valves p, q are connected by a rod r so that the carburettor supply may be shut off and the vaporizer supply brought into use ; or a two-way cock may be used instead of two separate valves.
