3126. Parsons, H. Feb. 9. Vaporizers, external.-The exhaust pipe of a multi-cylinder engine is so constructed that it may be water-jacketed when using petrol as fuel, or the jacket space may be used as a vaporizer when paraffin is the fuel. The exhaust pipe A<3> has a jacket a provided with one or more sinuous webs b, and with openings b<1>, b<2>. These openings are closed by flanges when using petrol, and water circulates in the space a. When using paraffin, a carburettor is attached at b', and a throttle f and an automatic air valve g, at b<2>. The web h causes the mixture to pursue a tortuous path over the hot pipe A<3>. At starting, a little paraffin is introduced into the jacket a direct; initial heating may be effected by a blow-lamp.
