Abstract

108,501. Hayes, W. H. Feb. 21, 1917. Vaporizers, external.-In an arrangement having a vaporizing-chamber containing an absorbent mass adapted to be heated by the products of combustion or by electric heating coils or other means, the vaporizing-chamber comprises a part d arranged within the exhaust pipe c, and a flat part e communicating at its edges with an annular part f extending into the induction pipe a. Cotton wick, wire-gauze &c. is packed into the parts d, e, and as regards the part f is enclosed between a tube g and a covering h of wire-gauze The tube g is closed at the end by a plate m and the part e acts as a baffle to the exhaust gases. The tube d is extended and provided with a cock o to allow petrol to be injected to start the engine. The supplies of petrol and paraffin may be obtained from float chambers and controlled simultaneously by a valve. If electric means is provided for heating the vaporizing-chamber, petrol need not be supplied. If electric heating-means is provided in addition to the heating jacket, such means can be cut off after the engine has been started.
