17,392. Byrom, J. July 30. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. Air entering by the pipe Q flows past a fuel nozzle, and the mixture formed traverses an exhaustheated mixing-chamber containing baffles before leaving bv the pipe R. Exhaust gases are led by the pipe S to the annular space between the outer casing. B and inner casing A. The latter forms the mixing-chamber and contains gauze disks D, Fig. 7, alternating with ribbed baffle-plates E, Fig. 6, which may have one or more perforations. Only the ribs F of the baffles E touch the casing A but the disks D fit tightly. The ribs, which are arranged at a suitable angle to the casing, serve to impart a whirling motion to the mixture. Fuel is allowed to drip over the needle valve C, which is actuated through a lever K and mushroomheaded spindle G by either of the levers M, N and a rod L. One of the levers M, N is connected to the engine governor and the other to the steering- pillar, so that hand as well as governor regulation may be obtained.
