Control Of The Air-Fuel Ratio Of Carburetors
(AREA)
Abstract
4667. Welsh, T. Aug. 28. Gas. or explosivevapour engines, carburetting in. The air entering t b e carburettor is divided into two streams, one of which flows past the nozzle to form the mixture, the other being diverted from the nozzle to act as supplementary air. The flow of air past the nozzle A, is regulated by disks B, C with partitions D, E to form tortuous passages. The disk C is fixed to the nozzle A, but the disk B can be adjusted through a rod H and nut J. The increased resistance offered by the tortuous path on an increase of speed, prevents the mixture from becoming too rich, as more air flows through the by-pass, which may be formed by a casing concentric with that of the carburettor, instead of being inside the carburettor as shown. In the construction shown, the throttle valve G nearly closes the by-pass and so facilitates starting.
