Abstract

116,296. Wheeler, H. C. Jan. 7, 1916. Spray carburettors.-A suction-actuated air valve carries the fuel valve and is provided with externally adjustable means for limiting its movements, particularly in the idling and choking positions. The carburettor comprises a corrugated mixture passage 6 jacketed by exhaust gases at 7 and surrounding a fuel-valve guide 18, and an airinlet casing 1<1> to which air is admitted at 11 and controlled by a suction-actuated weighted valve 10 which slides over a fixed guide 13. The fuel valve comprises a cylindrical portion 17 and tapered portion 17<2>, and is connected to the air valve through a disk 19 which is secured to a collar 20 on the fuel valve and to the air valve by a hook or the like 20<1> which permits of lateral movement of the fuel valve. The air valve may be depressed manually for choking through a shaft 40, an arm 42, and a finger 41 pressed by a spring against an adjustable stop 45, limiting its downward movement for idling. Fuel from the float chamber 23 passes through a conduit 24 to a chambered portion 21<1> of the fuel-valve guide. To adjust the richness of the mixture, an additional orifice 39 controlled by a screwed valve 37 may discharge fuel on to the air valve 10 which acts as a spreader.
