The main air supply, which is preferably heated, is admitted to the mixing-chamber C through the passage A, liquid fuel entering through a nozzle X from a float chamber of any suitable construction. The suction-operated auxiliary air-inlet flap valve E is held in its central position by an adjustable spring F, and its motion is damped by a pair of light vanes E<1>. The vanes and valve are preferably formed of aluminium, and in the event of a backfire the valve moves outwards. Combustible mixture is drawn away from the carburettor through the outlet D.
