Abstract

2913. Thornycroft, Sir J. I. Feb. 5. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. The carburetter mixing-chamber 7 is supported by a spring and adjustable screw 15, and regulates the air inlet 11 by closing on the flange 21 of the spraying-nozzle. It is placed in communication with the outlet 5 by perforations 12, which pre- ferably, in the case of larger carburetters, are covered with gauze wire. The outer casing 1 is heated by water from the cylinder jackets, or by exhaust gases passing through the jacket 2. The lower part of the spraying-nozzle may project into the bowl float 24 as shown, or it may pass through the float into the float-chamber. The needle- valve attached to the float is shown at 25. Any other convenient form of float chamber may be used.
