Abstract

107,357. Dyer, C. M. Feb. 26, 1917. Cylinders, pipes for.-An auxiliary mixing-chamber for the carburation of air, acting on the mixture from heavy hydrocarbon liquids, comprises a casing a heated by exhaust gases or cooling water admitted through a pipe z to a jacket b and provided with gauze partitions or screens m of increasing fineness upwardly, air being admitted above the heated part of the casing in a regulable quantity through holes x in communication with a boss s having holes w controlled by a valve r operated by a Bowden wire or the like. The mixture from the carburettor passes into the casing a through a cylindrical or dome-shaped screen j preferably of finer mesh than the lower screens m and passes to the engine cylinder through the induction pipe y. Where exhaust gases are used for heating, condensation water mav be drained off from the jacket b through a cock b<2>.
