Abstract

8580. White, I. P. April 18. Gas or explosivevapour engines, carburetting in. In spray carburettors provided with a heated chamber at the bottom of the mixing - chamber and with an automatic additional airsupply valve, all the air enters at the top of the carburettor and the mixture leaves by a lateral outlet. At the bottom of the casing 1 is an exhaust or waterheated chamber 5, through which passes the fuel nozzle 7 surrounded by the choke tube 16 leading to the lateral outlet passage 18. Above the fuel nozzle is a deflector 22. At the top of the carburettor is a casing 26 with several gauzecovered holes 27. The casing rests upon a per forated flange 28 between which and the flange 2 of the casing 1 is a flange 33, which supports the airvalve casing 31. This casing has two rows of holes 35, 36 the lower row 36 being controlled by the suction-operated valve 39 loaded by a spring 42. A vent 37 is provided in the bottom of the casing 31. At starting, air enters by the openings 27, 35, but as the speed increases, the valve 39 is pulled down and the extra openings 36 are uncovered. Any fuel dripping from the nozzle 7 is vaporized by the hot surface 4.
