Magazines.-An automatically operated guardplate D, mounted independently of the magazine, is arranged to close the upper end of the magazine in order to prevent the improper entrance of matrices when the entrance B is opened. The plate D, which is mounted to slide on the magazine base-frame A<1>, is moved into operative position by a lever E and spring E<3>, and is retracted by the engagement of a projection E<4> with the lever when the entrance is closed. The guardplate may be otherwise mounted, for example, on the entrance-frame B', or on the machine frame in the case of multiple-magazine machines.
