Abstract
538,892. Type-bar-making machines. CLEMO, L. M., [Representative of CLEMO, F. A.]. (Mergenthaler Linotype Co.). March 8, 1940, No. 4408. [Class 100 (iii)] Ejecting type-bars. The width of the ejectorblade is automatically adjusted in accordance with the length of the selected mould by means carried by the mould-disc and brought into action during the rotation of the disc for effecting a change of mould. A number of ejectorblade sections 30, Fig. 2, appropriate to a particular mould is, as heretofore, selected by a vertically sliding bar 34 operated by a lever 58. When the mould-disc turning-pinion 11, Fig. 3, is drawn forwards to disengage it from its driving-mechanism, it acts through a spring- controlled lever 40, intermediate connections, and the lever 58 to move the bar 34 into its lowest position, which corresponds to an ejector of minimum width. The'lever 40 carries a sliding spring-pressed plate 65, Fig. 4, which is normally held in adjusted position by a latch 68 engaging ratchet-teeth 69. The movement of the lever 40 carries the plate 65 into line with an abutment 72 on a lever 73. A fixed cam withdraws the latch 68, and the plate 65 is moved by its spring into contact with the abutment. The position of the abutment is determined by a series of blocks 80, one of which is located at the end of each mould. On rotation of the pinion 11 to select a new mould, a different block 80 is brought into position, and acts through the lever 73 to adjust the slide 65. When the pinion is reengaged with its driving-mechanism, the initial movement of the lever 40 allows the latch 68 to lock the slide 65 in its adjusted position. The slide has an inclined portion 84, Fig. 7, which by encountering a fixed stop 66, limits the return movement of the lever 40. The degree of movement of the lever, and, consequently, the distance through which the ejector selecting-bar 34 is raised, are thus determined by the setting of the slide 65.
