Abstract

24,566. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., [Mergenthaler Setzmaschinen-Fabrik Ges.]. Dec. 23. Magazines for type-bar-making machines. Relates to quick-change arrangements of the kind in which the magazine is removed from the rear of the machine, and in which the mouth of the magazine is automatically closed, to prevent the matrices from sliding out, when the magazineentrance is disengaged previously to rocking the magazine. (1) A finger 10 is now provided on the magazine-entrance 5 to engage with a fixed stop 13 if the magazine is tilted before the magazineentrance is disengaged by swinging about its pivot 6. The finger 10 is spring-pressed and is provided with a knob 16 so that it can be pulled back to pass the stop 13 when the magazine is swung down. The finger 10 or the stop 13 may be bevelled to allow these two parts to pass each other on the upward movement of the magazine. (2) The usual spring closing-plate 15 for the mouth of the magazine is now carried by a bar spring 14 located within the magazine-frame 3 or fixed to the bottom of the magazine.
