Abstract

13,876. Walker, A. H., [Mergenthaler Setzmaschinen-Fabrik Ges.]. June 10. Magazines for type-bar making machines. Relates to machines of the kind in which, for effecting a change of magazine, the magazine and frame are adapted to be raised, and, when so raised, to be turned through ninety degrees and the magazine removed at the side of the machine. To enable the upper edge of the magazine to clear the magazine entrance, the magazine has heretofore been adapted to be moved downwards on the frame, and to be temporarily locked in the forward position. According to the present invention, the lock consists of a spring bolt 7 mounted on the magazine frame so as to co-operate with recesses 6 in a bar 5 secured beneath the magazine, and it is adapted to be automatically released, when the magazine is turned through ninety degrees, by a pivoted arm 10 which engages an abutment on a fixed part of the machine. The lower recess 6 is bevelled at its upper side so that the bolt is readily forced back when the magazine is moved down. The recesses 6 may be formed in the rod 3 which guides the magazine on the frame, and they may be replaced by one continuous slot.
