Distributing matrices; magazines.-In machines having a number of distributors and a column of magazines, the distributors are arranged vertically one above another, and the magazine entrances, which are in overlapping relation, are so supported that an upper entrance may be moved out of operative position without disturbing a lower entrance. Each entrance, when opened, is arranged to throw out the distributor clutch. In the arrangement described, which is shown as applied to machines having main and auxiliary magazines side by side, each upper magazine entrance 22 is supported by studs 17 resting in forked lugs 18, and is held in operative position by a pivoted latch 19. The upper part of the entrance has partitions 20, and the lower part has matrix-guiding grooves, the lower ends of the partitions extending into the grooves. Each lower entrance 14 is movable about a pivot 26, and has partitions 27, which extend into the matrix-channels of the magazine. Each entrance can thus be separately opened. The distributors are stopped, when an upper entrance is opened, by means of an arm 29, which acts through a lever 31 and a cam on the distributor clutch. The main and auxiliary entrances are connected by overlapping bars, so that movement of either will operate the clutch. The lower entrances act on the clutch through a sliding rod 42, which is carried by the auxiliary entrance, and normally rests between a cam surface on the main entrance and a spring-pressed rod which operates the clutch.
