Abstract
448,243. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd., 9, kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Mergenthaler Setzmaschinen - Fabrik Ges.; 25, Chausseestrasse, Berlin) Dec. 3, 1934, Nos. 34704, 34705, and 34706. Convention dates, Dec. 22, 1933, May 18, 1934, and July 6, 1934. [Class 100 (iii)] Ejecting type - bars; galley-mechanism.-In order to prevent lateral tilting of a thick slug as it is ejected from the mould, the slug is supported during ejection by a resilient surface, preferably in the form of a spring-controlled buffer, which is locked against return movement, so that the slug is released as the ejector retires. A buffer-plate d, covered with felt, indiarubber, &c., is carried by a sleeve f sliding within a casing k. The plate is pushed back by the ejected slug b against the pressure of a spring i, and is latched by means such as a detent m engaging a recess g in the sleeve f. The detent is released, to permit the buffer-plate to return to initial position, by means such as a cam r on the first elevator. Means mav be provided for latching the buffer-plate in different positions to suit slugs of different heights. To prevent tilting of the slug owing to contact with the edge of the mould as it moves downwards, the slug is conducted to the galley y by a curved guide-plate t<2>, which rises behind the lower end of the slug after it is ejected. The guide-plate has an adjustable side wall t<3>, and is carried by a pivoted segment t, which is rocked by a projection v on the buffer-plate. The guide-plate may be movable vertically, and may be operated by the ejector or other part of the machine.
