Abstract

204,629. Fletcher, R. E., and Birch, A. Sept. 22, 1922. Stopping machinery by movement of guard. -In coiler mechanism for carding - engines, combing-machines, lap machines &c., the raising of the cover is adapted to separate the driving bevel gears on the vertical shaft in the coiler casing and stop the coiling- mechanism. The door of the coiler casing is locked when the cover is closed and unlocked when it is raised. The bevel gear a, Fig. 1, slides on the vertical shaft b, and is lifted out of engagement with the driving bevel gear d by the raising of the cover g, by a pin g<1> on the cover engaging a slot in a rod f, and by a connected rod c with fingers c<1> embracing a hub on the gear a. The slot f<2>, Fig. 3, is so shaped that the lifting of the rod f takes place only on the first movement of the cover. A stud c<2> on the rod c engages in its lowest position with the catch c<3> of the door of the coiler casing to prevent its being opened until the rod c is raised and the drive stopped. A sping bolt on the casing prevents the cover being lowered before the door is closed.
