[Class 80 (iv)] Rotation of a shaft A, mounted on the gearing frame end C of a textile spinning and twisting machine in one direction or the other, locks or unlocks the draft wheel covers and the twist wheel panel, and at the same time'actuates the belt-shift-fork, or an electric switch. With the parts in the positions shown the belt (not shown) is on the loose pulley O, and a stud n on the fork N opposite a vertical part m<3> of a slot m<1> in a pivoted bracket M. If the bracket be raised the stud passes into the slot m<3> and locks the belt on the pulley O. Also a rod L is raised and turns the shaft A thereby moving a horizontal bar d<1> clear of the draft wheel covers E<1> and withdrawing a projection G<2> from slots in the panel J and the top panel c<2> of the frame end. The covers can now be lifted. If this is done the belt cannot be moved to the fast pulley until the covers are lowered again. The bracket M is then released and falls until the stud n faces the slot m<1> so that the fork can be moved to transfer the belt to the fast pulley P. The rod L also falls and with it the bar d<1> to span the covers E<1>. The projection G<2> re-engages its slots in the panels. In the case of electric drive, Fig. 5, the spindle V of an interlocking switch W carries an arm U connected to a link T hinged to a bracket S on the bar d<1>. To open the covers J, E, the bar d<1> and arm G<1> are moved to the position shown, Fig. 5, in which movement the switch W is opened to stop the motor. To re-start, all the covers must be closed. The bar d<1> and shaft R can then be moved by hand to push the projection G<2> through its slots by means of links F, B, and close the switch W to start the motor.
