Abstract

492,958. Spindle driving and stop apparatus for spinning &c. machines. WALTON, N., and DAVY, J. March 30, 1937, No. 5984/36. [Class 120 (ii)] In spinning, doubling, twisting, and winding machines wherein a tape drives four spindles, two on each side of the machine, the tension pulley 39 of the driving-band is adapted to slide vertically on a guide rod 37 to give adequate compensation when pulleys 16a are operated to deflect the tape from one or more of the spindle wharls. The spindles are driven from pulleys 30, the tapes passing over guide pulleys on brackets 34 carried by a longitudinal rail. The pulleys 16a are mounted on levers 16 adjacent each spindle, an arm 15a of the levers being operated upon release of stop-mechanism. A latch lever 8 carries a bowl 14 adapted to operate the lever 16, and is unshipped from a bar 9 to permit operation by the spring 10 and lever system 12, 13, by means of broken-end and measuring stop - mechanism. The brokenend mechanism comprises a wedge 5 on a detector 2 adapted to be inserted between a rotary cam 6 and a finger 8a on the latch lever 8 ; the measuring mechanism comprises a rod 27, 27a adapted to lift the latch lever 8 and operated by the thread guide bracket 26. The lever 13 actuates the bracket 22 which carries the traverse mechanism to remove the driving-wheels from the actuating gears on the shafts 4, 7, and to apply a brake 21 to the spindle wharl, as described in Specification 443,555.
