[Class 120 (ii).] In the flyer apparatus adapted to impart two twists to the material per revolution described in the parent Specification, wherein the bobbin is driven by a drum actuated through variable-speed gear and, together with the traverse gear, is arranged inside the flyer and driven from the flyer spindle, the traverse is effected by a double-threaded screw operated by a change-speed gear controlled by means operable from the outside of the casing, the yarn is led from the central spindle through a stationary guide, and the flyers are mounted in staggered rows in the machine, the delivery of the yarn from the supply bobbins being controlled. The central spindle 3 drives a nest of gears 7, from which a gear 11 coupled by change gears with the bobbin-driving roller 16 is driven through a wheel 9 splined on a shaft 8 which is carried by a pivoted frame 12, the wheel 9 being moved as required by an arm 23 provided with a handle 13 adapted to be moved along a graduated scale 28 in the casing. The bobbin-driving roller 16 is geared with the double-threaded traverse screw 35 which is engaged by a yoke carrying the thread guide arm 44. A stationary guide 48 is mounted in the casing opposite the exit from the central spindle so that the yarn is not subjected to contact with a rotating surface and glazing of the yarn is prevented. A guide is provided in the usual disc 51 secured to the spindle, and a ring 52 pivoted at 53 is provided to prevent the yarn from fouling the mechanism when starting up. The flyers are mounted in staggered relationship in rows on a central framework, as shown in Fig. 7, and are all driven by a single belt 59, each spindle being provided with a brake block operated through an eccentric by a handle. The yarn may be drawn from stationary bobbins 77, or from rotary bobbins 64 which are mounted in pairs on brackets 65, and the delivery is controlled by wires 67 engaged by the yarn and coiled around a spindle 68. Each wire is connected to a brake pad adapted to engage a drum on the delivery bobbin and adjusted by setting the wire in the notches of a sector 70. A yarn drag or check device may be used when unwinding from stationary bobbins in substitution for or in addition to the compensating and braking arrangement.
