Abstract

164,393. Heywood, C. Dec. 8, 1919. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Interconnecting guard with starting-gear.-In sliver and ribbon lap machines, derby doublers and the like, a guard extending over the lap roller is connected to a hand lever interlocked with the belt-shifting lever, the guard being adapted to rise as the lap increases in diameter although it cannot be released until the belt has been shifted on to the loose pulley. Conversely the belt cannot be shifted on to the fast pulley until the guard is in working position. The guard a is secured to a shaft d with an arm i connected by links j, k to the operating hand lever m pivoted at n to a bracket o on the machine frame. A rod on the belt-shifting lever passes through a hole p in the bracket o and, when the belt is on the fast pulley, is situated over an arm or extension v of the lever m preventing manipulation of the guard. The joint s of the connecting links j, k is however connected by a link t to the upper end of one of lap racks u, the guard being thereby raised as the lap increases in diameter. When the machine is stopped the guard can be raised by the hand lever m, the arm v then obstructing the hole p to prevent the belt being shifted on to the fast pulley.
