Abstract
118,711. Pickford, J. Oct. 5, 191.7. Mules. - In a backing-off chain motion, the chain is kept tight at the commencement of a set of cops and is lengthened or slackened as the winding-faller moves downwards. The winding-faller is slowed down when nearing the thread coils at the bottom of the spindle. The backing-off chain f, Fig. 1, is attached to a snail g on the tin roller shaft and passes over a pulley e carried bv a lever d on the end of the link b connecting the fish-jaw lever c to the boot-leg, and also over a pulley i on a stud k carried on the fish-jaw lever. A second chain m is adjustably attached to a link n on the faller l<1> and passes round a pulley l on the stud k to the end of the lever d. The pulley e may be carried on an arm at the end of the link b, or the lever d may be mounted loosely on the stud on the fishjaw lever that carries the pulley i. The chain f, Fig. 7, may pass from the snail g round a pulley i and a pulley e<2> on the faller sector i' to a lever r carried by a bracket s. The other end of the lever r bears on a cam t on the faller shaft u. If two pulleys v, w, Fig. 9, are used with chains n, f<1> the cam t may be secured to one of the pulleys and act on the lever r, which carries a pulley c over which the chain f<1> runs.
