Abstract

16,439. Schneider, D. Aug. 4. Ring and traveller frames building-motions; spindle apparatus; lifting-rails.-In ring spinning- machines in which the thread is led for a number of turns around the point of the spindle before passing to the traveller, the number of turns being varied by varying the winding angle B, the variation of the winding angle is effected by automatically altering the position of the spindles in relation to the drawing-rollers as regards their inclination, or height, or as regards both. The determination of the winding angles for different diameters of the cop is made empirically, but it is stated that the object is best effected in theory when the winding angle is proportional to the angle made by the thread between the traveller and cop with the radius passing through the traveller, for equal distances of the ring from the point of the spindle. The rings are reciprocated by a chain 9, which is operated by a bowl on a cam-lever 4, and is gradually wound upon a drum 12 to effect the building of'the cop. The spindle frames are oscillated by links 34 from a shaft 31, which is oscillated by links 30, 19, 20 operated from a shaft 18 actuated by a rack 4<a> on the cam-lever. The extent of the movement transmitted to the shaft 31 is regulated by the inclination of a plate 25 along which a bowl attached to the lever 19 slides. The inclination of the plate 25 is varied by sliding cam-plates 26, 27 which are moved by a worm 15 in the same proportion as the chain is wound on the drum 12. In Fig. 7 the spindle frame is shown pivoted to an arm 38 and slides on an incline 36, so that the motion communicated to the spindles by the links 34 is resolved into an oscillation and a reciprocation. By providing a vertical guide and by connecting the link 34 to the arm 38 by a bell-crank lever, the spindle may be reciprocated in a vertical direction only.
