To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK S. OULVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spinning-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in spinning machines and relates more especially to means for lifting all of the guide eyes of the machine from the builder motion.
The object of the invention is to provide means of this type whereby all of the guide eyes of the spinning machine can be lifted in unison from the builder motion by an improved, simple and novel construction now to be set forth.
A structural embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation with parts in section of the improved spinning machine. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the present invention separated from the machine proper, and Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary side elevation.
The spinning machine shown in the drawings includes the ring rail 5, bobbin 6, drawing rolls 7, and the thread 8 which is led through the thread eyes or pig tails 9 on the guide rail 10. The vertical operating rods 11 are slidably supported in the bearings 12 which latter are adjustably secured to thedownwardly-extending arm 13 which is connected to the spinning machine frame as by means of a bracket 14;, the latter being secured to the frame. It will be observed that the arm 13 is formed with a series of longitudinal slots 15, while each of the bearings 12 and the bracket 14 are formed with a longitudinal slot 16, the slot 16 being at right angles to the slots 15, and bolts 17 being passed through the registering portions of the slots to thereby allow the arm 13 or the bearings 12 to be adjusted either in a horizontal or perpendicular direction for the purpose of properly positioning the arms with relation to the rods 11. Each of the rods 11 carries a collar 18 adjustably secured thereto, and rigidly connected to each of the collars 18 is one end of a metal or other strap 19, the opposite ends of the respective straps passing over and being secured to'sma'll pulleys 20 carried on a horizontal shaft 21, the downward movement of the latter being terminated automatically by the engagement of the collar 18 with the lower bearings 12. The shaft 21 extends the entire length of the frame and is supported in suitable bearings formed in the arms 13. A larger pulley 22 is keyed to the shaft 21 and has a metal or other strap 23 secured thereto, the strap passing over the pulley in the opposite direction from the straps 19 and extending downwardly and being secured to a slidably adjustable block 24 carried by the builder motion lever 25. The lever 25 is pivotally secured to the fitting 26 which is secured to the rocker shaft 27 and is provided with the outwardly extending tongue 28 which is rigidly connected thereto. The arm 29 secured to the rocker shaft 27 carries the usual weight 30 for counterbalancing the weight of the ring rail.
When the machine is running and the builder motion is, in consequence, in operation, the action of the rocker is in effect to bring the tongue 28 in contact with the lever 25 at a predetermined time of adjustment, so that the lever 25 will move in unison with the rocker and will effect the corresponding actuation of the shaft 21, which will be transmitted through the pulleys 20 and the straps 19 to the rods 11. As the parts, just described, are actuated, the shaft 21 will be given a rotary reoiprocatory motion whereupon the thread guide rail. 10 will be likewise lifted and lowered so as to cause the guide eyes or pi tails 9 to advance toward and recede from the tops or the bobbins. The operation just described remains the same regardless of the number of operating rods employed.
The connections between the rods 11 and the guide rail .10 may be of any form desired and there may be any number of rods used, the number employed being wholly dependent upon the length of the frame.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a spinning machine, in combination with a frame having a pair of superposed horizontal bearings, a vertical rod slidable in said bearings, an adjust-able collar on said rod disposed to directly engage the top face of one of the bearings to limit the Copies of this patent may be obtained for side of the shaft that is opposite to the side thereof on Which the first named strap extends, said straps having a substantially 15 parallel relationship.
