Abstract

367,852. Locking-mechanism for stopmotions of spinning, twisting, and like frames. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J. and MACKIE, J. P., Albert Foundry, Belfast. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35131. [Class 120 (ii).] In a spinning, twisting or like frame having a stop-motion of the type in which a feeler normally supported by the yarn is allowed on breakage of the latter to fall into the path of a power-driven actuator which directly operates the stop-motion, locking-mechanism is provided connected to the starting and stopping gear so that the actuator is automatically put out of action before the frame is stopped and is prevented from coming into action immediately on re-starting the frame. The locking-mechanism may also be operated by hand without affecting the running of the frame. The actuator shaft 2, Fig. 1, is oscillated by the engagement of a star-wheel 1 with a roller 5 adjustably carried in a slot 7 by the arm 3 of a two-armed lever 3, 4 the upper end of the arm 3 being formed as a hook 8. A lever 9 pivoted to the frame at 10 is provided with a hook 11 adapted to engage the hook 8 and hold the arm 3 clear of the star-wheel 1 so as to render the stop-motion ineffective. The machine is stopped by moving the starting lever 12 upwards the arm 13 and jockey-pulley 14 thereby being swung clockwise and the driving- belt 15 running idle. The levers 9, 12 are connected by links 16, 17 pivoted together at 18, the link 17 being pivoted at 10 and abutting against a pin 21 on the tail 20 of the lever 9. When the lever 12 is lifted to stop the machine the link 16 is raised, the link 17 moved about the pivot 10 and the lever 9 allowed to fall under gravity, the hooks 8, 11 then engaging to lock the shaft 2. The lever 12 is adjustably connected to the arm 13 by a bolt 22 in a slot 23 and is so arranged that the shaft 2 is always looked before the drive is stopped, and, on restarting the stops 19 provide lost motion to ensure that the drive is started before the shaft 2 is released. The arrangement may be made semi-automatic by omitting the lower stop 19, the stop-motion being automatically locked on stoppage of the machine and remaining locked on re-starting, the lever 9 being subsequently released by hand. In a modification having a rotating actuator, the shaft 2, Fig. 2, is driven from a constantly rotating gear-wheel 24 through an idler 25 and a gearwheel 26, the wheel 25 being carried by the arm 28 of a three-armed lever 27, 28, 29. On stoppage of the machine the link 16 is lifted, the idler 25 disengaged and the parts locked in position by the engagement of a pin 30 on the arm 29 behind a projection 35 on a latch-lever 31. On re-starting the machine the latch 31 is lifted by hand to reset the device. It may be made automatic however by providing a pin 47, Fig. 3, on the link 16 to rock the latch 31 and release the pin 30 when starting the machine, the idler 25 engaging the wheels 24, 26 under the action of the weight 48. Specification 358,937 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
