Abstract
436,815. Door-operating mechanism. McEWAN, M. H., and WOODALL-DUCKHAM (1920), Ltd., 136, Victoria Street, Westminster. Aug. 14, 1934, No. 23418. [Class 65 (i)] A coke - oven door-operating machine, shown in plan, includes a jib structure 4 rotatable about a vertical axis 3 anc carrying a hook member 9 for engagement with the door 18, the arrangement being such that the removal of the door from the oven and its replacement therein are effected solely by rotation of the jib about the axis 3. In the form shown this rotation is produced by an electric motor 15 driving, through gearing, a worm engaging a toothed sector 17 fixed to the jib. The hook 9 may be of a jointed type, such as is described in Specification 436,685, so that when the door is withdrawn it may be swung round into a position such as is shown at 18<a>. In a modification, in order to compensate for the arcuate movement of the jib in the initial part of its motion, the hook 9 is slidable transversely in the head 8 of the jib and carries a roller engaging a fixed cam track which causes it to move towards the pivot axis 3 of the jib during the first part of the rotation thereof, so that the door is withdrawn in a straight line until it is clear of the oven opening to avoid any contact with the latter.
