Abstract

493,151. Coke-oven doors. WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd., and KAY, I. April 7, 1937, No. 9897. [Class 55 (i)] The extractor head for removing a coke-oven door 25 is carried by a trolley 10 running on a track 11 carried by a rotatable structure 12, 12<1>, and after the door has been withdrawn some way along the track the structure 12, 12<1> swings about a vertical axis 13 located to one side of the head in its initial position in front of the door. The head carries a roller 15 which, during the first straight movement of the head, moves in a guide-way 16 which gradually merges into a current guide-way 18 to control the swinging movement. The head is actuated by a motor 24 driving a pinion 23 gearing with a toothed sector 21 pivoting on the axis 13 and connected by an arm 20 and rod 19 to the roller 15. The door-lifting hook 2 and latch-actuating means 3 coupled to the hook by a link 5, may be operated through a lever 6, screw-and-nut mechanism, and reduction gear 6<1>, by an electric motor 7. The latch-locking or door-securing means 4 may be operated by hand wheels 8 through gearing 9.
