Abstract
420,692. Door operating appliances. BUCHANAN & SON (LIVERPOOL), Ltd., J., and HUMPHRYS, A. H., 105, Brasenose Road, Liverpool. July 5, 1933, No. 19031. [Class 65 (i)] [See also Group XII] In apparatus for operating coke oven and like doors, the door is engaged upon supporting means which is withdrawn from the retort opening and displaced in an arc to allow of free movement of the discharge ram. The door of a coke oven 2 is carried by a framework 3 having lugs 4 engaged by sockets 5 on levers 6 pivoted at 7 to an arm 8 depending from a turntable 9. The levers 6 are connected by a link 10 to a threaded spindle 11, which is rotated by a handwheel 12. The turntable 9 is suspended from a carriage 13 by a king-post 14, and has guide wheels 15 engaging a track 16. A cam track 17 on the turntable is engaged by a pin on a crank arm 18 of a shaft 19 rotated by gearing 20 from a motor 21, the shaft 19 also carrying a crank arm 22, the end of which moves in a guide - way 23. In use, the handwheel 12 causes the lugs 5 to engage the lugs 4 on the door and lift this, whereupon the motor rotates the spindle 19, the crank arm 22 of which withdraws the carriage 13, after which the crank arm 18 causes the carriage to rotate.
