Abstract
687,058. Coke oven doors. KOPPERS, GES., H. Nov. 20, 1951 [Nov. 20, 1950], No. 27241/51. Class 55 (i). A handling machine 9 for coke oven doors includes a track 14 for removing the door outwardly and upwardly, the carrier 10, which supports the door by the engagement of claws 37 with lugs 36 on the door, being suspended by links 11 from rollers 13 which engage the track 14, the carrier being pivoted at 15, 21 in a guide device 17 supported by rollers 19 in guides 20. The guide 17 is moved horizontally by a rack 31 engaged by a pinion 32 driven by a motor through reduction gearing. The horizontal motion is transmitted to the rollers 13 by links 29 so that the vertical motion of the carrier 10 is effected at the same time. The pivot pins 15, 21 are slidable in brackets 16, 44 on the guide device 17 and the suspension links 11 are mounted in a bearing 12 whereby the carrier 10, and the door, may be swung through a right angle when it is retracted from the oven opening. This is effected by a pinion 34, operated manually or by power, engaging a toothed quadrant 33 on the bearing 12. The guide device 17 is steadied by rollers 24 engaging a rail 23 secured to the framework of the machine 9 which is itself steadied by rollers 25 engaging a rail 27 supported from the buckstays 6. The vertical girder 40 of the guide 17 is cranked sharply away from the oven chamber to provide space for the upper latching means 39.
