Abstract

1338922 Discharging coke ovens CAKL STILL 6 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 41381/71 Heading F4B Apparatus for discharging coke from a battery of coke ovens 1 comprises a coke car 15 movable on rails 14 along the battery of ovens and a coke guide 9 mounted on a wagon 8 which wagon is movable on rails 7 so as to be positionable between the coke car and an oven. The coke car 15 carries a coke tub 19, both the coke tub 19 and coke guide 9 being so mounted that they may be moved in a direction transverse of the rails 7, 14, so that the outer end of the guide 9 may engage an oven mouth 3 and an extension 23 of the tub 19 may engage the inner end of the guide. Steam energized vacuum extractors (28, 29), Fig. 2 (not shown), remove dust and fumes from the tub 19 and a further extractor (40), connected via conduits 44, (46), Fig. 4 (not shown), to apertures (47) adjacent the oven mouth 3 reduces the emission of dust and fumes from the joint between the guide 9 and the door frame (4). The extractors may be provided with cyclones 34, 35, 41. The joint between the guide 9 and oven 1 may be sealed by plates (13) carried , X on the guide which engage vertical anchor parts which lie between the ovens. Door opening means may be provided on the guide wagon 8, as may be means for cleaning the oven door and mouth.
