Abstract

1378441 Removing waste products in industrial processes KOPPERS CO Inc 9 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 37247/72 Heading F4X Fumes emitted from a coke oven chamber in a coke oven battery during discharging of the chamber are removed by an apparatus comprising a hood 19 mounted on a coke guide car 13 and a collecting main 21 mounted along the battery, the hood 19 being supported by a frame 17. The collecting main 21 has a plurality of openings having pivoted flaps 63 corresponding to each oven chamber, the flaps being operated by an adjustable mechanism mounted on the hood 19. This mechanism comprises a telescopic collar 41 mounted on the hood 19 and fixed to a carriage 43 movable on wheels 45 on frame 17, the carriage 43 also being attached to a piston-rod 51 of a piston and cylinder assembly 53 pivotally mounted on frame 17. The carriage also has a depending dog 57 provided with a roller 59 engageable with an arm 61 mounted on the flap 63. In operation the hood 19 abuts a coke guide 39, the collar 41 abuts the collecting main 21, and curtains 65, 67, supported by the frame 17, and covers 69, 71 are disposed over a quenching car 37.
