Class 55 (1) In a coke-oven door operating machine, a latch bar pressure screw actuating unit, comprising an electric or like motor 15 and a universal joint 14 of, for example, the kind described in Specification 499,099 is adjustably mounted and is guided if necessary, so that the flared operating socket 12 engages a latch bar pressure screw 11 of a door 3, despite the misalignment of the screw 11 with the axis of the unit, and tightens or loosens it. A cradle containing the unit is pivoted at 17 about a horizontal axis between brackets 18 which depend from a circular plate 19 pivoted about a vertical axis to the head 6 of the door operating machine. An arm 37 which may be adjustably mounted on the cradle extends beyond the socket 12 and engages a ramp 36 on those doors having pressure screws above the lowest level of screws in a series of doors. The co-operation of the roller on the arm 37 with the base and sides of the ramp 36 aligns the socket 12 with the screws 11. Returning springs 21, 28 restore the unit to its original. after it has been deflected. In another form the unit is mounted in parallel links so that a translatory movement rather than a rotatory one is effected. The arm 37 and the ramp 36 may be reversed in position and the ramp is adjustable vertically and horizontally. Specification 619,021 also is referred to.
