Abstract
681,073. Coke-oven doors. KOPPERS CO., Inc. April 25, 1951, No. 9665/51. Class 55 (i) [Also in Group XXVI] The resilience of the steel sealing member 54 of a coke oven door is enhanced by making it of channel shape which permits the sealing-edge 58 to move through a relatively large distance without permanent distortion of the member. The member 54 is secured by nuts 65, in position on the door margins and around the retainers 40 for the plug 41 and the leveller door opening, packing 66 sealing the member 54 to the face of the door. The edge 58 is held against the face of the door frame 14 by spring- pressed plungers 72 which are spaced around the door, the inward movement of the door being positively limited by adjustable stops 80. The four sides of the member 54 are each made from a rolled channel section, the web being thinner than the flanges which latter each form the upstanding part 57 carrying the sealing-edge 58. The web is cut along the longitudinal middle line and each half is bent down to form the vertical flexing part 61 of the finished side, and then inwardly to form the horizontal fixing part 62. The four sides so made are welded together to conform with the shape of the door, the corners of the member 54 being rounded off. The door is secured by pivoted latch bars 42 and latches 16, and is provided with a pivoted, latched, screwpressed door for the leveller opening.
