Abstract

1,199,654. Coke oven doors. KOPPERS CO. Inc. 24 April, 1968 [1 May, 1967], No. 19493/68. Heading C5E. A coke oven door for a horizontal coke oven comprises a centrally open door frame 13 and a diaphragm 15 non-integrally secured to the frame (by screws 17) covering the open portion of the frame. The diaphragm 15 is thin relative to the frame, and the construction makes the door flexible and conformable to the door jamb 39 when the jamb is deformed by heat. The screws 17 secure a sealing gasket 65 and a sealing frame 19 which is pressed by plungers 41 against a face 37 of the jamb. The plug 21 is held by liner retainers 23 bolted to latch bar supporting structures and lifting hook structures. Flexure of the door is limited by stops 57, 61 which are adapted to engage the jamb and which are secured at 63 to the side portions of the frame 13, see also Fig. 5 (not shown). Adjustable corner stops are provided.
