Abstract
804,431. Seals for oven doors. PARKINSON & COWAN, Ltd. May 20, 1955 [May 20, 1954], No. 14795/54. Class 126 A seal for an oven door comprising a resilient member having a bearing part and an outer flange at right angles, is secured to the door or the door frame by a part remote from the outer flange so that the edge of the frame or the door engages the bearing part near the outer flange, the bearing part and edge of the frame or of the door being slightly inclined to each other and lying in the direction of movement of the closing door. One flange 21 of a resilient channel sealing member is clamped between a channel member 12 forming the frame of the door opening and on out-turned flange of the oven lining 14. The web 23 of the seal is at a small angle to the edge face 26 of the door which slides over the web as the door closes. The free flange 22 of the seal passes between the outer panel 13 of the oven and one of the outwardly directed limbs 16 of the channel frame 12, and bears against the panel 13 to close the front surface of the cooker. At the corners of the door opening, the rounded corners of the door bed on tubes 28 of glass fibres which are secured in slots in the top and bottom channel seals. The web of the top channel seal may abut the web of the side seal which extends beyond the door opening, or it may enter a cut away part of the side channel seal. The door frame channel members may have their flanges directed forwardly, Fig. 6 (not shown). The channel seals may be mounted on the door itself, in which case the flanges are directed towards the middle of the door.
