Abstract

691,330. Sliding doors. ECKINGTON, F. J. Nov. 5, 1951 [Nov. 4, 1950], No. 26966/50. Class 20(iii) A sliding door which lies flush with the surrounding surface when closed consists of two panels, an inner sliding panel 1 which is provided with top and bottom rollers engaging on rails 21 and an outer panel 2 which is attached to panel 1 by means of spring-loaded arms 3. In the closed position, the outer surface of panel 2 is flush with the outer surface of the door frame 10. When the door is opened, the chamfered edge 19 of the panel 2 rides over the correspondingly chamfered edge' of the frame on rollers 17 so that the panel is moved towards the panels 1, the whole door then sliding behind the frame, the spring arms 3 being housed in recesses 6 and 7 in panel 1. When the door is closed, the panel 2 is urged by the arms. 3 into its flush position in the door aperture. To prevent draughts, the two panels may be connected by a flexible bellowslike lining 8 of rubber or the like.
