Abstract

639,534. Hinges. VAFFIADIS, C. April 4, 1946, No. 10441. [Class 65 (ii)] In hinge fittings for a door adapted to open about either edge and comprising hinge members situated at both edges and independently releasable from companion members on the frame by separate actuating means which simultaneously move a separate fastening member adapted to engage the frame, means are provided both for interlocking the fastening members to prevent both sets of hinge members being released at the same time, and also for putting the interlocking means out of action to allow the door to be completely removed. A set of hinge members comprises slidable bars 9 and 10 having cranked outer ends 8 adapted to engage eyepieces 4 on the frame and inner ends carrying pins 18 adapted to be engaged by a rotatable tumbler 12 which constitutes the actuating means. A bolt-like fastening member 13 is urged into engagement with the frame by a spring 19 and is adapted to be released by engagement with the tumbler 12. The interlocking means consists of a slidable bar interposed between the bolts 13. The bar can be tilted to put it out of interlocking action.
