Jan 23, 1957 No 2445/57 Class 20(3) [Also in Group XIV] A pair of sliding doors 4, mainly for articles of furniture such as a cabinet 2, 3, which are flush when closed and deflected away from ore another when opened to allow one to slide behind the other, have grooves 5 in their top and bottom edges for sliding along the upturned flanges 6a of U-section guides 6 which are pivoted at 7 towards their outer ends, to the underface of the top and the top face of the base of the cabinet respectively. A door is opened by pulling on the respective handle 8 so that the inner and outer edges of the door swing inwardly and outwardly respectively, a complementary movement in the opposite direction being imparted to the other door so that the door being opened can slide on the free flange 6a behind the unopened door. The meeting ends of the lower guides 6 are ganged by means of depending pins 9 which extend through slots 10 formed in the roof of an inverted channel section casing 11 let into a recess in the floor of the cabinet and engage in slots 12 at the ends of a link 13 pivoted centrally on a pin 14. The guides 6 are urged toward their aligned positions by means of torsion springs 15 each of which, with its eye engaged around the pin 14, has one leg engaged by a corresponding pin 9 which, when the associated door is pivoted, urges it away from the other leg which is held against following movement by a pin 16 depending from the roof of the casing. A stop 17, fixed to the underface of the top of the cabinet at each end, limits the sliding movement of a door in an opening direction and has a projection 18 which engages in a recess 19 in the rear face of the unopened door to limit its pivoting, and prevent its sliding movement. The guides at both the top and bottom, or only those at the top, of the cabinet may be interconnected.
