Abstract

765,253. Joint-making packing. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 11, 1955, No. 4122/55. Class 122 (3). [Also in Groups X and XIII] A resilient gasket such as for a refrigerator door 11, Fig. 2, comprises an elongated hollow body 16, having a convex external surface 22 and a longitudinal protuberance 24 on the surface 22, the protuberance having a first portion 26 extendng away from body 16 and a second portion 28 joined thereto and extending back into the space between portion 28 and surface 22, the free edge 29 of portion 28 lying adjacent surface 22. The body 16 is crescent-shaped and joined at one end to a flange 18 which may be ribbed as at 20 and which is clamped between inner and outer door panels 13, 12, securing means such as screws, not shown, extending through panel 13 and into panel 12 being covered by an extension 21 on the free edge of body 16. The portion 26 joins surface 22 away from the middle of body 16 so that on closing the door 11, the flange 31, Fig. 4, of the refrigerator cabinet causes protuberance 24 to fold towards body 16 and the free edge 29 to bend surface 22 along the centre thereof. In a modification the inner wall of body 16 is less curved and protuberance 24 has a raised portion at the junction between portions 26 and 28.
