Abstract

258,999. Haigh &. Sons, Ltd., J., and Riley, A. Aug. 25, 1925. Feeding carding-engines. - In a hopper feed mechanism in which the spiked feed lattice is driven through fast and loose pulleys and is stopped during the emptying of the scale pan at the end of each weigh, the belt fork j is carried on a vertical shaft k controlled by a spring o, which tends to turn the shaft and carry the belt on to the loose pulley. The belt i<1> drives through the pulleys i a shaft h connected by gearing g to the pulley which operates the lattice b. The shaft k is held against rotation by a finger l engaging with an extension m<1> on a lever m. The scale pan d when full descends and the pinion d<5> comes into position to be engaged by the toothed segment d' on the shaft d<8>, which is rotated from the feed rollers of the carding-engine. The lever d<1> carrying the scale pan has mounted on it an arm d' adapted to engage by a trigger s a weighted catch p<1> and hold it out of engagement with a rotating catch block r geared with one of the pinions g. As the scale pan descends the trigger s leaves the catch p' which rises into engagement with the catch block, and the catch is forced to one side, raising the lever m and freeing the shaft k to move the belt on to the loose pulley. A finger w on the shaft k moves over a pin d<10> on the arm of the scale pan to hold it in position until the scale pan has been overturned and its load emptied on to the feed apron e. The shaft d', through a belt t<3>, rotates a cam t<1>, which operates a lever t to disengage the catch p<1>. A cam u<1> on the shaft d' then engages a finger v on the shaft k and turns it to carry the belt back on to the fast pulley. The finger w also moves away from the pin d<10> and the empty scale pan is free to rise and carry the trigger s back over the catch p', thereby depressing the lever m and bringing the extension m<1> into position to engage the finger l and lock the shaft k in position. The door c controlling the feed into the scale pan is operated by a finger c<1> on the shaft k.
