Abstract

369,336. Lap - forming apparatus. SOC. ANON, COTONIFICI RIUNITI S. R. L., 1, Via Carlini, Milan, Italy. Feb. 12, 1931, No. 4477. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1930. [Class 120 (i).] In a continuously-operated sliver-lapping machine having two driving drums A, B and a pressure drum E, Figs. 5 and 6, and adapted automatically to expel the completed roll and to substitute an empty lap rod, the pressure drum E is mounted on a pivoted lever so that as the lap roll grows the point of contact of the drum E is displaced to the left and produces an increasing horizontal component tending to expel the lap roll from the machine. The drum E is chosen of such a weight that it acts to break the sliver and expel the lap on the attainment of a predetermined maximum diameter. The machine is also provided with a length counter adapted to effect expulsion of the lap before reaching the maximum diameter if a given length has been wound. The drum A is driven directly from the shaft 3 through a pinion 38, Fig. 7. The drum B is driven through gearing from fast and loose pulleys 20, 21 and is connected by a chain to the drum E. The rollers C, D are similarly driven from the pulleys 20, 21 and the rollers H, K directly from the shaft 4. On completion of the required length the measuring device operates levers 14, 16, 17 and the beltfork 18 to shift the belt 19 to the loose pulley, stopping the drums B, E and the rollers C, D. The rollers H, K and the drum A continue to rotate the slivers being broken at S, Fig. 6, and the completed roll ejected from the machine. In so doing it engages the roller L and moves the lever 29, 30 about the pin F the bar 36 pushing the empty lap rod G into the winding position and the slide-block 31 expelling the next rod from the container 32. The lever 29, 30 returns under spring action. The drum E, connected to a lever 28 by an arm 42 and a rope 23 which passes round a pulley 24 on a rack 25, falls by gravity thus lowering the lever 28 which by a rope 34 rotates the levers 16, 17, 14 and moves the belt 19 on to the fast pulley 20.
