[Class 143] Delivery of material from a hopper 10 to a receptacle 5 suspended on a weighbeam 3 is controlled by a shutter 11 opened by an operating handle 24 and closed automatically through the downward movement of the receptacle interrupting the connection between the shutter and handle. In the particular form shown, a weight 15 biasses the shutter to its closed position. The connection between the shutter and handle 24 comprises a vertical slide-bar 18 connected by a cable 17 to the shutter and provided with rack teeth 19, or a length of chain, engageable with a gear 20 on shaft 21. The handle 24 is loose on this shaft and is adapted to turn it anticlockwise to open the shutter through a pawl and ratchet gear, a second pawl preventing reverse rotation of the gear 20 and shaft The bar 18 is guided by arms 25 of bell-cranks mounted on fixed pivots 26 and connected to trunnions 28 on the receptacle. When the receptacle lowers, upon receiving the weight of material for which the beam 3 is adjusted, the bell-cranks move the slide-bar 18 laterally out of mesh with the gear 20 so that the shutter closes under the action of the weight 15 and cannot be reopened, to add further material, until the receptacle has been emptied so that the rack 19 is re-engaged with the gear 20. In place of the handle 24 with its pawl and ratchet drive, the shaft 21 may be actuated to open the shutter by means of a depending cable wound about a drum on the shaft.
