Abstract

203,623. Osborn, A. E. Feb. 12, 1923. Variable-speed gearing comprises gears 71 - - 75 slidable in a group on a driven shaft 70, being actuated by resilient striking-means 22 which coacts with means 28 for disconnecting the main clutch 11 prior to making a new engagement of gear teeth. Mating gears 61 - - 65 are secured to driving-shaft 20 in line with engine shaft 10. The means 28 is a cam with swells which rock a lever 38 and so disengage the clutch 11. In a modification, this cam is in the form of a pivoted sector which carries the spring part of the striking-means. Specifications 213,021 and 213,421 are referred to.
